Amazing house, 神妙美屋

Recently, a lovely couple bought their first single family house in Irvine, CA. I am honored to design their new home. This is another over the internet design consulting project. I found myself enjoying this type of design consultation more and more. By using email to exchange photos, space measurement, and using FaceTime /Skype for walking through the site, I save a lot of travel time and there for I am able to focuse on doing design. The clients get to save $$ on design service fee and work with their own timeline.
The challenge of this project is the linear floor plan. I would like to work on the issue to creat a more open space and find a way to use the owner’s many great art works to decorate the house through out.
Because of this couple’s faithful servant hearts, I want to design their house to be somewhere God’s name can be glorified; people can see the blessing from God is overflowing from this house. Only through God will I be able to do it, so let’s wait and see! ^_^ Photos here

感謝神，最近忙完了餐廳的案子又緊接著來自加州的設計案。
這個案子也是純透過網路溝通，加上方便的iPhone 視訊與交換照片來進行，我發現自己現在很喜歡這類型的案子，因為宅女的我可以不用出門，專心做設計，而客人也可以按他們的預算與時間完成他們的理想家，又可以減少設計附帶一提，上次的豪宅美景岸，據說櫃子即將完成，敬請期待來自客人的照片）

這個案子很有挑戰性的地方是它很受限制的狹長格局，與身為醫生的男主人其實是個藝術家，要如何安靜的展示他眾多精美的油畫與做到符合他們喜愛的設計讓我頗有壓力，不過禱告後，我感覺神給我的功課是幫助都熱中教會服伺的他們創造一個可以用來榮耀神名字的家，並在裏頭生養眾多！當然只有透過神的幫助囉！敬請期待〜照片於此

This is a commercial project I am currently working on. My task was to design the restaurant within the owner’s limited budget and pick the right furniture for the restaurant in Arlington, VA near East Falls Church Station. Great house with beautiful view, but.. 美景豪宅的設計諮詢

The owner moved into this house in the summer , 2012. The house was built in 1971, a flat with beautiful sunset view at Turtle Rock community, CA . The owner had spent quite a lot of money on replacing floor, repainting the wall and remodeling the kitchen. But they feel there’s something missing. The house is great, but the interior is not upgraded to match with the real estate value. So, here I am to help. The owner e-mailed me the measurement and photos. A week or so, and I sent them a set of working drawing for the bookshelf and window seat; two furniture plans and purchasing list and wall color. They are happy with the design and is looking forward to upgrading the house, good luck and enjoy ! Click here for more photos.

這是一個位於加州爾灣豪宅區的豪宅，這個房子的景色很美，屋主一家於去年暑假才剛遷入。屋主雖然才花了不少錢換地板，上新漆，換廚櫃。但是他們就是覺得少了甚麼，所以經朋友介紹，他們把照片跟空間尺寸電郵給我，我則在一星期後將完整的房間配圖，購買家具清單與材料樣本寄給他們。希望他們能一步步打造他們的夢想家!願神祝福他們! 看照片於此

Great magnetic board under $60

While looking at the kids’ study room of my friend’s house, I proposed to add something on the bare wall to match with the feeling of the existing room. First, we bought a picture frame from IKEA （VIRSERUN, $29.99) and then we went to Homedepot to cut a metal sheet ($24) into the same size.
Ta- da!! A great magnetic display board under $60!!
這是一個很即興的小改造案，屋主的小孩書房牆上有點空，所以我決定幫他們加一個實用的磁鐵告示板。首先我們在Ikea買了便宜的大尺寸畫框($30美元不到)，然後到建材店裁一片鐵片放入就成了純樸好看的磁鐵板！

Kitchen renovation under $20,000

這個是粗曠中的精致同一個屋主，他們終於決定換掉之前現成的家具改為更溫馨休閒風格的電視櫃與窗戶旁座椅, 結果請拭目以待!

Dressing up the house at Fairfax 裝扮妻子的夢想家

I have been extremely busy since last September. I’ve been hired to help a family to furnish their big, rather empty house in Fairfax, VA. For this project, I primarily designed custom cabinets, hand-picked furniture, and planned wall finishes

Today (1/30/2013), I was especially satisfied seeing the project finally came together! The family has many items that they treasure, I was able to repurpose the items and used them as decorations around the house. I enjoyed seeing the client’s house being decorated with what they treasure. Afterall, decoration is not just for “the beauty of eye”, it should be very personal, something the clients like to be surrounded by daily.

最近忙著一件聽起來像是簡單的裝潢設計工作，但其實費時最多!
不過這是從神來的恩典，讓我在小兒子一開始上全天班時就接到這份工作，能善用空出來的時間又增加收入，真好！
這次的屋主需要布置5房3廳，因他們偏愛有質感的美國傳統家俱，所以我們大部份在Ethan Allan購買。工程還包括換牆壁顏色與貼壁紙，與訂製一個書櫃。在布置小物上，我盡量使用他們現有的收藏與他們小孩的繪圖作品，因為能使用客戶現有的收藏品及作品來布置他們自己的家是最好不過，讓他們天天在喜愛的東西中生活，使裝飾品不再只是好看，而能為空間更添個人特色！看更多照片

The trend of e-decorating 專業線上設計諮詢服務的時代來臨!

拜科技所賜，我一直有透過網路提供設計諮詢服務給遠在其他州甚至台灣的親友，當然大部份都是已經認識我的人。

但我一直以為這種好像不太專業的做法只適用於熟人間….

沒想到近年來這樣在網路上提供諮詢服務卻大行其道!

有的設計師甚至只做這種足不出戶的網路設計服務就夠養家活口了!

其實這種方法的確是有很多好處，例如設計師省下了交通與量工地的時間，客戶則省下了大筆設計費與要自己一手弄房子的壓力，可以按著自己的時間與預算來完成，非常適合那些凡事願意親為的人。

聽起來好像不簡單，其實很容易!

首先，我會請客戶用電郵寄來房子的尺寸(畫在簡單的平面圖為佳)與空間室內外照片給我

然後我也請客戶寄一些喜歡的室內空間照片甚至是藝術品甚或的時尚風格照片來好讓我了解他們的喜好

等設計圖完成時，我會先電郵一部分回去，並請客戶寄支票或到PayPal 線上付款。收到全款後我會郵寄完整的施工圖與材料顏色板會去給他們。

如此他們便能照著自己的時間與預算來施工打造他們的夢想屋!

當然住台北有室內設計需求但又不是太習慣透過網路方式來進行設計案的人可以跟我聯絡，每年暑假我就像鮭魚一樣返鄉探親。

I have been doing design service though internet for years, mostly to people who already know me.

I would ask them to send me the measurement and photos of the space , plus some pictures of interior style or art they like. And we used IM or e-mail for idea exchanges, and I e-mailed them back with completed working drawings (floor plan, sections..etc.) and material boards.

I thought this way probably would stay as the “non-professional” way of design, and only for friends or relatives.

However, E-decorating has become a big hit in recent years. More and more designers only provide e-decorating service.
By doing online design consultation, designers save their time on site visiting and space measuring, and clients save their money and pressure on transforming their house to the one they really like. This is a win-win situation for those who like to perform the makeover on their own. And it’s not that hard!

First you need to measure the space (width, length and height), and take some photos of it. Then e-mail your need and tell me the interior styles you love (or fill out the question form that I provide), an inspiration of art or fashion will be great as well !

I will send you back with a completed set of working drawings and furnishing information once the payment through Payopal is completed. ( Plus, I can provide you some online purchasing service with the benefit of designer discount for many stores, e.g. Pottery Barn, see the whole listes )

烘 [ home ] Design

烘 [ home ], the house where one’s family lives. The word ”烘” is not the word for ”home” in Chinese (家 is the correct Chinese character). But the pronunciation of “烘” in Chinese is similar to “home” in English , and if you look at each part of this Chinese character, you will find it very interesting. “火” on the left side means: fire, and “共” on the right side means: sharing or together. When putting both parts together, it means to share warmth together. I believe that is what a home should be. Home is not only a house where one’s family lives but also where family shares warmth, laughter and tears together.
This is the mission of my interior design. I like to do home design. I like to make each home where families can share love together.

Face lifting the 60 years old rambler! 60年老屋的改建

This is a project in Falls Church. I plan to not only face lift the 60 years old rambler but also make the 1800 sqft house to meet the needs of a family of four.

By enclosing the existing dining room, I was able to add one study room and open up the kitchen, making the dining room in the previous family room. The dining room is now where family and friends can gather around to eat, to play and to share. The projects included interior and exterior remodeling. The owner did the apprisal right after the remodeling and they were happily with the $130,000 gained. See more photos here.

這是一個60年老房子，我在這個不算大又非常老舊的房子進行新的空間規劃與符合這一家四口生活的需要，並以簡潔的線條與純樸的材料來達到空間的寬闊感。此案包含室內與室外的整修，歷時兩個月順利完工。

經過銀行重新估價後，這個房子改裝後在短短兩個月間就增加了美金$130,000 真是令人開心! 請至相簿看施工前後的照片 see more photos here
